The Litre Sprintcar NSW State Title has been run and won. In the best wheel to wheel racing action the feature race went flag to flag!!!
Sean Barnett blitzed the field to become the NSW Title Champion!!
Drew Keith hung on for second and Jason Bell rounded out the podium positions in third.

The 410 Sprintcar, "Thunder through the plains" meeting last month was Fantastic!! A hugh crowd turned out to witness some awesome racing! One spectator got up close and personal with a clod off the track, she would like to give it back to the driver!! For those that were wondering she has made a full recovery and would like to thank the Ambos and those who assisted.
We really appreciated the effort some of the competitors went to just to be here!!
There were a few that had good intentions but due to breakdowns on the way didn't make it, sorry you guys missed out, dont forget to make up for it on April 25th!
Apologies for the late and limited write up, I still haven't fixed the photo problem, yes I know, slap on the wrist.

Check the News on the left for the race dates and proposed program for the 2008/2009 season.

Yours in Speedway

A good crowd gathered, umbrellas ready, as storms threatened to washout the Nov 17th's race meeting but fortunately only a light shower occurred before racing started and a couple of sprinkles during the meeting just added to the Fender Benders entertainment. Special mention goes to David Roberts for the first rollover of the season, he managed to flip his valiant one and a half times!!

The CARLINE MUFFLERS NSW Super Sedan Series Rd3 was hotly contested with Tony Barklimore securing pole for the feature, Tony used his right to choose the outside pole line after a shower of rain made the track a bit greasey hopeing to give Lachlan Onley the slippery line to the first turn. But it wasnt to be, Lachlan found good traction down low and lit out in pursuit of his second series checkered flag. Barklimore made Onley work hard for first place and had to settle for second himself with Michael Hickey taking third place.

The TRI-STEEL Formula 500 series Rd2 was well supported with 12 carts making the journey from all over the east coast.
Michael Baxter was the standout performer on the night. After the heats he was the one to beat in the feature. True to form the 500's feature was set to impress with Baxter starting from the rear. The rain shorted feature had a couple of tense moments resulting in a couple of restarts but Queenslander Brock Hallett managed to keep the rampaging Baxter at bay to take the feature checkered flag with Baxter having to settle for second and Colin Adams third. True to form the 500 feature winners donated their trophies to a couple of lucky kids endearing them crowd and promoting that good sportsmanship is alive and well in Speedway racing!!

Gilgandra District Speedway Club would like to thank Drivers, Sponsors and Spectators for making this a great night!

10 Sprintcars made the journey for the Oct 28th. An excellent night of racing enthralled the crowd.

The Final round in the
NSW V8 SUPER SEDAN SERIES has been run and won!!

A field of 11 Super Sedans delivered plenty of high-octane action, the drivers competing for the final points in the Series. The official points score had been kept under wraps, keeping everyone guessing as to who was leading the Series.

The top contenders, Paddy Ward (24), Tony Barklimore (63) and Brett Hignett (76) were separated by only 146 points coming in to the final round. Once the word was out all drivers delivered thrilling speedway action during the heats so as to position themselves for the best advantage in the feature race and take home the glory.

Only 20 points separated Tony Barklimore and Paddy Ward coming into the feature race. Barklimore and Ward came together as they tussled for the lead, resulting in Tony being penalised to the rear of the field. While he put in a valiant effort to regain 5th position Paddy Ward lead out from the front and seemed a certain for line honours but was out manoeuvred on the final turn by Robert Carrig who won the final dash for the finish line with Paddy Ward a close 2nd and Wayne Dick, of Brain dead racing, securing 3rd place.

Paddy Ward was the point score winner and was named the Series Champion for the NSW V8 Super Sedan Series for the second year running with Tony Barklimore in 2nd place.

Equally the Fender benders entertained the crowd throughout the night. A large contingent of Parramatta and Lismore cars was expected, but due to an unexpected cancellation of the Dubbo speedway event due to run on Saturday some drivers decided that it was not economical to make the long run for only one night of racing. In the end 7 away cars joined the 6 local boys in the fray, the Parramatta drivers enjoying the Country Hospitality being dished out!!

Parramatta driver Chris Chaffey (Chaffy) took out the feature race with Brian Harland (Phantom) and Dave Murray (Sparky) close behind. All the bender drivers fought it out and provided some excellent bendering on the night.

Geoff Blackstock (Black Betty) was named the spinout champion as he managed to spinout everyone that he caught up to, putting on an excellent show for the large crowd that had attended.

The feature event for the benders was a King of the Ring event that saw the Phantom crowned the winner. The drivers then put on a nose to nose burnout competition on the pad with Michael Harland (Slug) producing the most smoke. Black Betty once again took out the crowd favourite.

9 Junior drivers put on a fantastic show for the crowd displaying some class driving. Danny Simms (40) drove well all night only to have a gearbox problem in the feature which saw Sam Fisher(72) take out 1st place with Mitchell Bennett(2) in 2nd and Thomas Logan(9) in 3rd.

Not to be out done by the Fender Benders, Shane Holmgreen provided the crowd with the only rollover of the night. The emergency services were quickly on the scene and Shane walked away unharmed, much to his mother’s relief.
The same could not be said of his car, which will require a lot of work.

The Modified Production division displayed some fantastic door to door racing on the night with 4 cars rounding the final turn in the feature race all intent on being the first to the line!! Don Tudor(29) out ran the competition for 1st place with Jeff Barclay(8) hot on his heels for 2
nd with Josh Gale(28) holding on for 3rd.

Street Saloons was a runaway win for Ross Bennett with Andrew Logan putting up a good challenge in the first couple of heats but had to settle for 2nd place with Colin Hewitt 3rd.

The Gilgandra Speedway club would like to take this opportunity to thank the spectators for their attendance, our sponsors and all the drivers for making the night entertaining and enjoyable.

Congratulations to

John Leslight, Car 81, from Murwillumbah, who won t he NSW Super Sedan Title 2006/2007 on Saturday 20th of January.
Second was Gary Pagel of Maryland and third was Wayne Brims of Tweed Heads. NSW Title winners

An excellent nights racing was enjoyed by the 1500 - 2000 strong crowd. A field of 24 Super sedans nominated, with drivers coming from Rockhampton, Brisbane, Newcastle, Lismore, Leeton, Dubbo and Gilgandra. Local club drivers Ray Brown, Wayne Dick, Lachlan Onley, Paddy Ward and Tony Barklimore performed well but did not manage to secure places in the top 3. Tony Barklimore's car suffered a fire in the second heat, fortunately the RFS was there to extinguish the flames quickly.

We would like to thank all the drivers and their support teams for an excellent nights racing and also the spectators for their continued patronage.
